NebuPal
An interactive toy that contextualizes Cystic Fibrosis the place of a story. It allows children to view treatments as missions and acts of bravery.
Overview
Who
Children with cystic fibrosis.
Why
Cystic Fibrosis is a disease affecting more than 30,000 children in the United States. While there is no cure, a common treatment is the use of a nebulizer, the process of inhaling liquid medicine. Treatments however are often traumatizing experiences for young children, where parents are often forced to administer them when children are asleep due to uncontrollable crying.
The need for a user centered design is apparent.
Process
Presenting, NebuPal
Patterns of play reflect breathing techniques and the interface of the nebulizer compressor, allowing children to become self-sufficient in treatments and mitigate poor inhalation techniques.
